Forthcoming Events

FORTHCOMING EVENTS as at 8th April 2024

Please remember any Member can put forward their ideas and the committee will support anyone who takes on the organisation themselves.

24th April - St George’s Day Lunch –  The Brassiere Blanc Southbank.   The Brassiere is a lovely room and the set menus very affordable but maybe not as smart as our usual venue, but money wise very reasonable at approx £65 per head with a welcome drink. No money required yet, please put date in your diaries though and confirm to me your wish to attend.

May 21st is  International Tea Day.  Afternoon Tea in either The Grill at Victory Services Club.  This will be limited to 20 people so please put you name down now.  Likely cost is £20 per head. There will be an optional extra of Prosecco.  We may be able to add more guests but at a slightly different serving time.  OR Similar tea but at Vicinity near Tower Bridge likely cost £35 per head. Nicer view here but not guaranteed depending where seated.   We can discuss it further at the AGM

6th June 2024 - 80th Anniversary of D-Day to include a Fish and Chip lunch. Tentative booking at Seafresh which is about 12 mins walk from Victoria Railway Station.  I have asked for a select menu to include Battered Fish and Chips as well as Grilled and a Seafood pasta dish.  Prices not yet available as too far in advance, but it will be on this date. If you want to attend but do not eat fish let me know asap and I will look ask for an alternative.

This lunch will include raising money for the Charites chosen so please take a look at this website:

18th June Battle of Waterloo.  Event organised by Bill Sheldon. Duke of Wellington Pub and Auberge Lunch.  (Tentative as close to 6th June event)

July/August Picnic at Bermondsey Square with free live music. Janice and Bill have ascertained that the park near Waterloo Station is having trouble getting funding. We can still get food and drink at the Sainsbury’s Bermondsey and there is a very good Turkish restaurant in the Square for when the music stops.  Bill and Janice would meet everyone at Waterloo and take them to the venue, a short bus ride away.  Date still to be confirmed.

12th July 130th Anniversary of RSSG.  Black Tie Dinner at Stationers Hall – approximately £150 per head. Please save the date.   This is going to be a very prestigious event and  the highlight of 2024, please see The Journal for full details.  There will be a drinks reception at 6.30pm with canapes, followed by a three course meal with wine.  Music will be provided with a good old sing along later.  The event will finish at 10.30pm.  A silent auction to raise money for RSSG Chairman Nick Dutt’s Charities may be included.  If you have something special you can donate towards this please contact Jane.

13th August – Jez has very kindly agreed to host our 4th Historic pub tour, starting at 6 o’clock near Great Portland Street Underground station.  As these very popular events have always been over-subscribed precedence will be given to those who have not been on a previous tour.  Details and application nearer the time.

24th August Saturday – Battle of Crecy Victory Services Club  Having visited this restaurant several times recently, I can confirm the food is excellent. Gordon and Bill have offered to organise this. We have enough members of The VSC to ensure many of us can attend.

September – Historic walk Tiitled Royalty in Westminster and Whitehall with the same company who took us on the Pub tour of Belgravia.  As soon as I have a date and price I will let you know.  Probably a Saturday again though.

October – Tower of London Ceremony of the Keys and book a restaurant nearby for pre tour dinner.  Restaurant suggestions welcome for a pre visit meal.  Bob Smith might be able to help as he is still in contact with Jimmy James.

October 23rd has been confirmed – Battle of Trafalgar Portsmouth. Guests of RSSGYA.

9th November.  The Royal Albert Hall.  A suggestion has also been made that it would be worth-while trying to go to the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in November.  We understand from one of our Members who attended the afternoon performance this year,  that Members of the Royal British Legion receive an invitation to attend the afternoon ceremony and are permitted just 2 tickets. That would mean joining The British legion which I think is about £18 per year. Anyone interested please contact Gordon: -

gordon.g.v.williams@btinternet.com

We would then arrange a restaurant for after the performance.

November -Wilton Music Hall Magnificent Music Hall production. Jane on mailing list looking out for the date this appears in their calendar.

December - Christmas Luncheon Party.  Ideas for a new venue most welcome.  I am very keen on The Theodore Bullfrog as they have a private room upstairs and offer a Christmas Menu.  26-30 John Adam Street WC2N 6HL.  This may be followed by a

London Bus Tour of The Christmas Lights. Member Janet Dennis Ranger and her husband Tim enjoyed this immediately following our Christmas Party 2023 or we can arrange it for a different date.

Christmas Lights at Kew Gardens.  An early evening event accessible from Kew Station on The District Line, with a view to dine in a local restaurant afterwards.  TBC
